Muhammad Ali, Boxer
The charismatic fighter born in Louisville as Cassius Clay became
an Olympic gold medalist and a three-time heavyweight champ.
Stripped of his title in 1967 for refusing induction into the
Army, he regained the crown seven years later by beating George
Foreman.

Mary T. Meagher, Swimmer
The three-time Olympic gold medalist from Louisville set seven
world records in the 100-and 200-meter butterfly. Her 1981 world
records in the 100 and 200 fly stood for 18 years. She might have
won three more golds if the U.S. hadn't boycotted the 1980 Games
in Moscow.

Paul Hornung, Football player
The Louisville native won the 1956 Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame
and later played halfback on three of the Green Bay Packers'
Super Bowl teams. In 1960 he set an NFL record for points in a
season (176) that still stands.

Wes Unseld, Basketball player
The 6'7" center is one of only two NBA players (along with Wilt
Chamberlain) to earn the MVP and Rookie of the Year awards in the
same season (1968-69). He starred at the University of Louisville
and helped the Washington Bullets win the 1978 NBA title.

Harold (Pee Wee) Reese, Baseball player
The Hall of Fame shortstop was captain of the Brooklyn Dodgers in
the 1940s and '50s. He played minor league ball in his native
Louisville and then was an executive for batmaker Hillerich &
Bradsby.

Cliff Hagan, Basketball player
The 6'4" Hall of Fame forward from Owensboro played on Kentucky's
1951 national championship team and its undefeated 1954 squad, as
well as the 1958 NBA champion St. Louis Hawks. He served as the
University of Kentucky's athletic director from 1975 to '88.
