In The Crease

Coaching adjustments have buoyed the Red Wings. After Detroit
lost Games 3 and 4 to the Predators in round 1, coach Dave Lewis
put Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on a line together to
create chances against Nashville's superior speed. That pair was
dominant in Games 5 and 6. After dropping the second-round opener
to the Flames, Lewis put Steve Yzerman with Kirk Maltby and Kris
Draper on the checking line. They shut down Jarome Iginla in Game
2, and Yzerman scored twice.... Expect the Coyotes, who fired
coach Bob Francis on Feb. 24, to try to hire Jacques Martin, who
was let go by Ottawa after it lost to the Maple Leafs. Phoenix is
a young, evolving team, just as Ottawa was nine years ago when
Martin took over there. And Coyotes managing partner Wayne
Gretzky likes Martin, with whom he worked closely on Canada's
2002 Olympic team; Gretzky was executive director, Martin an
associate coach. They'll be reunited in those roles for Team
Canada at the World Cup in August--if not sooner.
