Faces in the Crowd

Will Carr, SALT LAKE CITY
Baseball
Carr, a junior righthander at Emory, earned his 12th victory of
the season, a school record, in a game against North Carolina
Wesleyan. He leads the NCAA Division III in wins this year and
has a 22-0 career record.

Erinn Smart, BROOKLYN
Fencing
Smart, 24, won the gold medal in women's foil at the Division I
national fencing championships in Atlanta, taking her third
national title. She and her older brother Keeth will compete in
Athens this summer on the U.S. Olympic team.

John Criste, SANTA CLARITA, CALIF.
Swimming
John, a freshman at Saugus High, won the 100- and 200-meter
breaststroke at the California-Nevada Spring Championship. In
December he broke the 24-year-old national age group (13-14)
record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.45.

Kelli Johnson, EDMONDS, WASH.
Softball
Johnson, a junior lefthander at Winthrop University, in Rock
Hill, S.C., pitched two perfect games in one week for the Lady
Eagles. She is a three-time Big South Conference pitcher of the
week and has struck out 179 batters in 205 2/3 innings this
season.

Brad Sherman, FAIRFAX, VA.
Golf
Sherman, 55, a packaging salesman, used a six-iron to shoot a
lefthanded hole in one on the par-3, 171-yard 7th hole at the
River Bend Golf and Country Club in Great Falls, Va. In 1990 he
shot a hole in one as a righthander on the par-3, 186-yard 10th
hole.

Nicole Osmar, NINILCHIK, ALASKA
Dogsled Racing
Nicole, a third-generation musher and a freshman at Ninilchik
High, won the 160-mile Junior Iditarod. Her father, Tim, is a
three-time Junior Iditarod winner and her grandfather, Dean, won
the 1984 Iditarod.

Justin and Jordan Barnard SHELBYVILLE, IND.
Basketball
Twins Justin (left) and Jordan, Waldron High seniors, combined
for 45 points and led the Mohawks to victory in the state
championship game.
