Colonial Country Club

The immense pressure on Annika Sorenstam at last year's Colonial
inspired me to do something to make her feel at home during the
tournament: I added a Swedish touch to The Book. On the cover I
wrote "Ft. Sorenstam" instead of "Ft. Worth," and below the title
I inserted the phrase "Yaa...ees gut," a phonetic
interpretation of a phrase common among Swedes on Tour: Yeah,
it's good.

In addition I recruited Jennifer Dark at the American Swedish
Institute in Minneapolis to translate The Book's abbreviation
page into Swedish. Every Tour pro and caddie knows my symbols for
things like sprinkler heads and water hazards, so there was no
chance of confusing anyone. I also figured that the Swedish terms
would make Annika happy and give the pros who didn't know her an
icebreaker if they wanted to introduce themselves.

One of Annika's best shots at Colonial came at 16--the top hole
on the course--in the first round, when she hit a six-iron to six
feet. (She missed the birdie putt.) The hole's teeth are in the
green. It's super slick and has a steep rise on the right, which
makes it feel as if you're hitting onto a split-level pool table.
With that much break and speed, players better lag it unless they
have a tap-in.
