Heard on the Range
Thirteen tour pros live at Lake Nona, a gated community in
Orlando, and when one of them wins a tournament, the company that
runs the development puts up a celebratory banner by the entrance
on Lake Nona Road. The banner usually comes down after a few
weeks, but Nona pros have been on such a tear--Retief Goosen's
victory in the U.S. Open was the seventh by a resident in the
last six weeks--that all of the banners are still flying.... At
the Wegmans Rochester (N.Y.) LPGA, 10 tour pros played in a
100-person Texas Hold-em poker tournament for charity. Said Kelli
Kuehne, the top finisher among the players, "I was the last girl
standing." ... Christina Kim and Suzann Pettersen aced the
123-yard 15th hole at Locust Hill Country Club during the
Wegmans. The 15th was the only par-3 at which players were not
awarded a car for a hole in one.... Craig Stadler, who won the
Champions tour's Bank of America Championship, and his son,
Kevin, who took the Lake Erie Charity Classic on the Nationwide
tour, are the second father-son duo to win PGA Tour-sanctioned
events on the same day. Bob and David Duval did it in 1999.... As
a tribute to his 85-year-old mother, Ilene, who died on Sunday,
Jay Don Blake shot her age in the final round of the Booz Allen.
Blake eight-putted the 18th hole for a sextuple-bogey 10.
