Senators Clear The Way Dominik Hasek to Ottawa?
By trading goalie Patrick Lalime to the Blues on Sunday for a
conditional pick in next year's draft, the Senators have set
themselves up to sign Dominik Hasek. The move cleared payroll and
left Ottawa without a No. 1 netminder. Hasek, 39, played only 14
games for Detroit last year because of a groin injury, but now,
following surgery, says he's healthy and would sign with Ottawa.
The Senators' general manager, John Muckler, was G.M. in Buffalo
when Hasek was blossoming into the league's top goalie as a
Sabre. With the free-agent signing period to begin July 1, the
sides were reportedly close to a deal.
