
Faces in the Crowd
Kerron Clement, LA PORTE, TEXAS
Track and Field
Clement, a sophomore at Florida, won his third 400-meter hurdles
title in a month, at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field
championships. The SEC freshman indoor runner of the year, a
native of Trinidad, became a U.S. citizen on June 7.
Janet Nagle, MINNETONKA, MINN.
Softball
Nagle, a junior lefthander at the University of St. Thomas, led
the Tommies to a 46-4 record, an NCAA Division III-record 41-game
winning streak and their first NCAA national title. She went 10-0
in the postseason and threw a one-hit shutout in the title game.
Treat Huey, ALEXANDRIA, VA.
Tennis
Huey, a graduate of St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, ended his
third consecutive undefeated season by winning his 30th straight
match and his third Ben Johns Invitational title. The USTA's
top-ranked Boys' 18 Singles player will attend the University of
Virginia.
Kadie Stamper, JOPPA, MD.
Lacrosse
Stamper, a midfielder who recently graduated from C. Milton
Wright High, scored 48 goals and led the Mustangs to their first
Class 4A-3A state championship. She had eight goals and four
assists in the title game, setting a tournament record for
points.
Benson Simpson, SYRACUSE, N.Y.
Special Olympics
Simpson, 32, a cook, broke three state Special Olympics
powerlifting records at the New York 2004 Summer Games. He
bench-pressed 270 pounds and deadlifted 440 pounds for a combined
total of 710 pounds, 105 pounds over the previous mark.
Liz Woodworth, MARINETTE, WIS.
Track and Field
Woodworth, a senior at Wisconsin-Oshkosh, won national titles in
the 800 (indoor and out) and 1,500 meters (outdoor), and led the
Titans to indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III championships. She
set the division records for the outdoor 800 and 1,500.
Scott Hyde, GRANTS PASS, ORE.
Baseball
Hyde, a senior righthander at George Fox, went 3-0 in the NCAA
Division III national championships to give the Bruins the title
in their first tournament appearance. He led the division in wins
(14) and strikeouts (191) during the regular season.
