Double Or Nothing

Kim Rhode became the final Olympic champion in the double-trap shooting event, which is being eliminated after the Athens Games. Rhode, 25, hit 146 of 160 targets to add a second gold medal to the one she earned as a high school junior in 1996. "I'll look back with tons of memories," said Rhode (inset). "But a new event brings a new challenge."

Rhode will focus on the skeet event--in which she did not medal in Athens--for Beijing. In skeet, targets move horizontally in front of a shooter; in double trap, targets move away from a shooter, two at a time. Given that her training club spent $30,000 to build a double-trap range two years ago, Rhode can count on a lot of help in getting back into the gold medal hunt. --B.C.
