These young players made their talent known in Week I of the Open

Marcos Baghdatis, 19. Already the best player in the history of Cyprus, he was the only man to take a set from top seed Roger Federer in the first four rounds in Queens.

Tomas Berdych, 18. Having beaten Federer at the Athens Olympics, this big-serving Czech upset Jonas Bjorkman on the way to reaching the fourth round at the Open.

Amer Delic, 22 (inset). The 2003 NCAA singles champ (at Illinois), who was born in Bosnia and moved to the U.S. in '96, has a booming delivery and a hard-charging attack game.

Tatiana Golovin, 16. This Brad Gilbert protégée from France went shot for shot with Serena Williams in the third round before losing a close two-setter.

Angela Haynes, 19. She may have been born in the Compton section of L.A., but comparisons to the Williams sisters end there. Haynes is short on power and long on guile.
