Olympian Effort
At the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Ervin Kovacs of Hungary leaves his prostheses on the pool deck and dives in for a 200-meter freestyle heat for swimmers in the S5 category (full use of arms and hands but no trunk or leg muscles). Kovacs would finish fourth in the final.

The Jaws of Victory
Jeffrey Fabry of Tulare, Calif., a Paralympic W1 (tetraplegic) archer, draws the arrow back with a mouth tab while tuning up for the preliminaries of the individual competition, in which he set a world record. Fabry won bronze medals in both the individual and team events.
