Joel, a junior running back at Panama Central's high school, scored on a 50-yard run and a 10-yard reception in a 31--22 win over Chautauqua Lake, a game in which he rushed for 170 yards. He also kicked all kickoffs, punts and extra points and led the Panthers on defense with 12 tackles.
Casey McCluskey
SPRINGFIELD, VA. > Soccer
McCluskey, a senior forward at Duke, is tied for the Atlantic Coast Conference lead with 15 goals for the season. Over a five-game stretch she scored 10 goals and had two assists for 22 points. She has scored two or more times in four straight games and has eight game-winning goals.
Brett Ormsby
EL CAJON, CALIF. > Water Polo
Ormsby, a senior attacker at UCLA, scored three times in a 10--9 overtime upset of Stanford, helping the Bruins win the NorCal tournament title. His nine goals in three wins brought his career total to 219. He leads top-ranked 12--2 UCLA with 39 goals and 79 assists.
Erin Smith
STRATFORD, ONT. > Softball
Smith, a senior righthander at Durham College, became the winningest pitcher in the history of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association with a three-hit shutout of Mohawk. She has a 40--2 career record and an 0.88 ERA and has led the Lords to consecutive OCAA championships.
Bruce Ranger
POMPANO BEACH, FLA. > Harness Racing
Ranger, 44, drove 6-year-old pacer Six of Diamonds to victory in the fastest mile ever at Rockingham Park in Salem, N.H.: 1:49.3. He won 215 races at the track this season, breaking his own track record for wins, and he set records for second- and third-place finishes and most drives.
Chelsea Smith
MEAD, WASH. > Cross-country
Smith, a sophomore at Brigham Young--Hawaii, won the individual title in the women's 6K race with a time of 21:12, helping lead the Seasiders to a 50-point victory at the Hawaii Pacific University meet. The defending NCAA Division II champion is undefeated in six races this season.
