McGahee Starts With a Bang

DISPATCHES

In his first NFL start the Bills' Willis McGahee rushed 26 times for 111 yards in a 20--13 win over the Dolphins. Particularly noteworthy was a third-down run in the fourth quarter by the 230-pounder: He bulled into defensive end Jason Taylor and drove him downfield for a four-yard gain. "He's a little bigger and a little thicker than I thought," Taylor said of McGahee, who undoubtedly will get more work even after Travis Henry returns from an injury to his left foot.... Forty-four-year-old Morten Andersen of the Vikings has made 40 straight field goals from inside the 40.... Packers offensive coordinator Tom Rossley didn't make the trip to Detroit after undergoing an angioplasty earlier in the week, so coach Mike Sherman took over full time play-calling for the first time in his NFL coaching career. The result: Green Bay piled up 434 yards and controlled the ball for 39:41 in a 38--10 win over the Lions. Sherman downplayed his success saying, "Today was a good day. There are bad days for offensive coordinators and head coaches calling plays. We just happened to hit them today."... While the Patriots have been grabbing headlines for their NFL-record 20-game winning streak, the Eagles have quietly gone about their business with five consecutive wins, all by double digits. Even more impressively, Philadelphia is 27--7 in its last 34 road games, and teams looking to overtake the Eagles for home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs should know that they have won 29 of their last 35 games after Oct. 31.
