Boys Interrupted

How three athletes fared upon returning to sports following their Mormon missions

SHAWN BRADLEY, Basketball

After one year at BYU (14.8 points per game, 7.7 rebounds and a Division I-best 5.2 blocks) and two on a mission in Australia, the 7'6" beanpole (left) was the No. 2 pick in the 1993 NBA draft, by the 76ers. In 12 seasons, largely in a reserve role, he has averaged 8.6 points.

BRITTON JOHNSEN, Basketball

A two-year mission in Houston didn't hurt this forward's game, as he returned to Utah to become the '01-02 Mountain West player of the year. He played with the Magic last season.

GRANT ROBISON,Track and Field

In 2003, three years after returning to Stanford from South Africa, he won the NCAA outdoor 1,500 meters and qualified for the '04 Olympics, where he finished 12th in a semifinal heat. --Gene Menez
