KINGSTON, JAMAICA > Track and Field

Smith, a senior at Auburn, won his second consecutive heptathlon title with a career-best 6,035 points at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. His point total is the third highest this season and the second highest ever by a collegian.

David McKee

IRVING, TEXAS > Ice Hockey

McKee, a sophomore goalie at Cornell, made 207 saves on 222 shots in Ivy League play and leads the nation with a 1.27 goals-against average. He was named the conference's player of the year, and he has already tied Ken Dryden's Big Red record of 13 career shutouts.

Lindsey Gallo

FREEHOLD, N.J. > Track and Field

Gallo, a fifth-year senior at Michigan, was named Big Ten women's indoor athlete of the year after winning the mile and the 3,000- and 5,000-meter titles in the conference meet. She won all nine of her races this season, and her 4:37.97 mile is the fastest in the U.S. by a woman this year.

Jim Bayne

BRISTOL, CONN. > Basketball

Bayne, a sophomore forward at Western New England, scored the game-winning basket with 15 seconds remaining in a 70--68 upset over Plymouth State. Last month he scored all 22 of the Golden Bears' second-half and overtime points in a 64--58 upset of Norwich.

Taylor Baughman

CARMEL, IND. > Swimming

Taylor, a senior at Carmel High, took the 50- and 100-yard freestyle titles and anchored the winning 400-yard relay to lead the Greyhounds to their 19th straight Indiana girls' swimming and diving championship. She ended her high school career with eight state individual and relay titles.

Fantasia Goodwin

YONKERS, N.Y. > Basketball

Goodwin, a freshman forward at Monroe College, was named the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III player of the week after getting triple doubles in back-to-back wins for the Lady Mustangs. She leads Division III in scoring average (25.8) and rebounds (16.6).
