HALL MONITORING
Congratulations to Vijay Singh, but didn't it seem odd that he was elected to the Hall of Fame last week? Candidates must have a minimum of 10 wins or at least two victories among the four majors and the Players Championships, 10 years on the Tour and be 40 or older in the ballot year. (Sorry, Tiger, you'll have to wait until 2015.) With 26 wins in the U.S., including three major championships, and 22 other victories worldwide, Singh certainly meets all the criteria, but there's still something counterintuitive about enshrining a 42-year-old who's ranked No. 2 in the world and playing the best golf of his life. Golfers don't generally retire--ever--but shouldn't the Hall wait until a player looks as if he's done with his major accomplishments before casting him in bronze? In order, here are the eight guys who, I think, should have gotten in before Singh, based on their age and playing ability. --Gary Van Sickle
