The Week Ahead
FRIDAY 13
Costas Now HBO 9 p.m. | Included in the premiere of Bob Costas's new one-hour show is a segment on former Red Sox outfielder Tony Conigliaro--the AL's youngest home run champ (he hit 32 in 1965, at age 20)--who was never the same after a 1967 beaning.
SATURDAY 14
Lacrosse, NLL Championship NBC 3:30 p.m. | Mike Emrick, a veteran of seven Stanley Cup finals, will call the Champion's Cup play-by-play as the upstart Arizona Sting take on the Toronto Rock, who are making their sixth title-game appearance in the last seven years.
SUNDAY 15
Bay to Breakers | More than 70,000 runners--and costume-clad revelers--take to the streets of San Francisco. EDS Byron Nelson Championship CBS 3 p.m. | Defending champ Sergio García needs to get back on track: He blew a six-shot final-round lead last Sunday.
MONDAY 16
BCA Open 9-Ball Championships | New Yorker Tony Robles tries to be the first male to repeat as champion. College Baseball, No. 8 Arizona at No. 18 Arizona State 8:30 p.m. | The Wildcats look to sweep the five-game season series against their rivals in Tempe.
TUESDAY 17
Fearless: Smarty Jones OLN 8 p.m. | It was the best underdog horse story since Seabiscuit. The plucky fan favorite from Philadelphia won the first two legs of the Triple Crown last year for his wheelchair-bound owner, Roy Chapman.
WEDNESDAY 18
Cotton Bowl, Notre Dame vs. Houston ESPN Classic 3 p.m. | It was chicken soup for the Fighting Irish soul when Notre Dame QB Joe Montana, suffering from the flu, ingested a few bowls in the locker room, then returned to rally the Irish against Houston.
THURSDAY 19
Women's Tennis, NCAA Championships | Stanford's Alice Barnes lost in the singles final of the Pac-10 tournament, but that's not necessarily a bad thing: The junior lost the Pac-10 final last year, then rebounded to lead the Cardinal to the title. She'll hope history repeats.
