The Week Ahead

What to watch for

FRIDAY 6/17

College World Series

It's been a big month for Tulane's All-America pitcher Brian Bogusevic: The lefthander (who moonlights as a rightfielder) was drafted by the Astros in the first round two weeks ago. Now, Bogusevic (13-2, 3.14 ERA) will try to lead his top-ranked Green Wave to its first CWS title. (Through June 27.) ESPN, check listings

SATURDAY 6/18

Ray Romano & Kevin James: Making the Cut

Cameras followed the comedic duffers as they competed in the 2005 Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Romano's professional partner was Brian Watts, and James played with Graeme McDowell--but the King of Queens star met a few other golf celebs. "It's the greatest experience," says James. "Even when you hook a ball into the other fairway, you get to apologize to guys like Freddy Couples." HBO 9 p.m.

Extreme Cello Walk

Three cellists give new meaning to the phrase traveling musician. They'll hike 41 miles through the English countryside, stopping along the way to play movements from Byrd's Mass for Three Voices. In the past they've lugged their instruments to the top of 1,696-foot Mam Tor and to the bottom of 213-foot Blue John Cavern (above). The toughest place to reach on this trek--which will raise money for the Sheffield Cathedral Choir--will be Stanage Edge, a steep rock face outside Sheffield.

SUNDAY 6/19

U.S Open, Final Round

If Retief Goosen is in the hunt today, he's defying the odds. Since 1991 only one defending champ, Tiger Woods in 2001 and '03, has finished better than 40th. The last time Goosen was defending champ, he missed the cut. Goosen also missed the cut the last time the Open was held at Pinehurst No. 2, in 1999. Yet the South African is optimistic. "I wasn't particularly fond of it the first time I played it," Goosen said. "But I'm in a different frame of mind now." NBC 12:30 p.m.

MONDAY 6/20

Wimbledon

Last year's tournament served as a coming-out party for Maria Sharapova, a relatively unknown 17-year-old ranked 15th in the world who won it all. "I didn't think about who was watching," she said. "I was in my own world." Now she's got a legion of admirers and the No. 2 ranking. (Through July 3.) ESPN2, check listings

WEDNESDAY 6/22

Fat Tire Bike Week

Mardi Gras meets mountain biking as the world's longest-running bike festival celebrates its 25th anniversary in Crested Butte, Colo. The limbo contest is, some say, legendary. Another highlight of the weeklong festivities: a race in which costume-clad cyclists career down a 1,000-foot hill on bikes without chains.

SATURDAY 6/18

A Stirring Comeback

Aston Martin is known more for being James Bond's preferred wheels (inset) than for its prowess on the track. The British automaker was out of racing for 15 years before returning in March, when David Brabham, Stephane Ortelli and Darren Turner drove the new DBR9 to a win at the 12 Hours of Sebring. The team led by Brabham and Turner will be favored in the world's greatest endurance race, the 24 Hours of LeMans. Speed Channel, check listings
