Lauren Moore

SAN DIEGO > Water Polo

Moore, a senior at Pomona-Pitzer, scored two goals, including the game-winner with less than five seconds remaining, to give the Sagehens the Division III national collegiate women's championship. She was named first team all-tournament and tournament MVP.

Sintayehu Taye

PORTLAND, MAINE > Track and Field

Sintayehu, a freshman at Portland High, won the 1,600-meter run with a state-record time of 4:09.69 at the Maine Class A championships. He also won the 3,200 meters and was a member of the winning 4√ó800 relay team as the Bulldogs won their first state title in 26 years.

Dani Hofer

PALM HARBOR, FLA. > Softball

Dani, a senior righthander at Palm Harbor University High, is the 2005 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year. She led the 31--0 Hurricanes to their second consecutive Class 5A title with a record of 25--0, including seven perfect games and 23 shutouts. Her ERA was 0.08.

Roger Vyse

SIX NATIONS RESERVE, ONT. > Lacrosse

Vyse, a senior attacker at Limestone, scored 71 goals, breaking a 34-year-old Division II single-season record. He scored in his last 31 games (including 25 straight with multiple goals) and led the Saints (who lost to New York Institute of Technology in the NCAA final) to a 15--2 season.

Melissa Sneller

ZEELAND, MICH. > Golf

Sneller, a senior at Grand Valley State, shot a four-round score of 292 to win the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. She was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Women's Golf Athlete of the Year for the second straight season.

Josh Smoker

CALHOUN, GA. > Baseball

Josh, a sophomore southpaw at Calhoun High, led his school to a 34--1 record and the state Class AA championship. He ended the season with a 12--0 record, 137 strikeouts in 751/3 innings, one save and a 0.09 ERA. He also hit two home runs for the Yellow Jackets.
