Hayley Peirsol
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. > Swimming
Peirsol, a junior at Auburn, was the top swimmer at the Janet Evans Invitational at USC. Swimming for the Irvine Novaquatics, she won the 400-meter freestyle, the 400-meter individual medley, the 800-meter freestyle and the 1,500-meter freestyle.
Cody Transou
GAFFNEY, S.C. > Golf
Cody, a kindergartner at Northwest Elementary, won his second straight South Carolina U.S. Kids Golf State Championship in the six-and-under division. The five-year-old will play in his second U.S. Kids World Championship at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., July 27--29.
D'Andra Carter
OVILLA, TEXAS > Track and Field
Carter, a recent graduate of Red Oak High, threw the discus 163'6", breaking her sister Michelle's all-classes state-meet record and taking her second straight Class 4A discus title. The daughter of former Olympic shot putter and NFL player Michael Carter is also a two-time 4A shot put champ.
Aimee Murch
CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA > Softball
Murch, a righthanded pitcher at Lynn University, led the Fighting Knights to their first Sunshine State Conference softball title and NCAA Division II championship. She had a 0.45 ERA with 428 strikeouts in 280 innings and was named SSC female athlete of the year.
Steve Marcelle
GREEN BAY > Track and Field
Marcelle, a recent graduate of Green Bay Preble High, won the shot put with a throw of 68'1/2" at the Nike Outdoor National Track and Field championships. He set the Wisconsin high school outdoor and indoor shot put records this year and took the Division I discus title.
Alex and Ben Lee
TENAFLY, N.J. > Tennis
Twins Alex (far left) and Ben, juniors at Tenafly High, finished the season undefeated at doubles (40--0), winning the Bergen County and state titles and helping the Tigers to a second straight Group II championship.
