Top Buys

NFL season openers are just weeks away, and that's when prime time for merchandise sales kicks off. Broken down by type of stuff, these teams sold the most in 2004.

Jerseys, Eagles
Driven by sales of Terrell Owens (the NFL's third most popular individual jersey) and Donovan McNabb (fourth), Philadelphia beat out the Patriots and the Steelers.

Golf Shirts, Polos, Packers
The Green Bay golf connection? The National Golf Foundation says Wisconsin ranks second in the U.S. in golfers per capita (behind Minnesota).

Jackets, Raiders
Temperatures averaged 60° on game days at Oakland's Network Associates Coliseum last season. The Raiders went 5--11 in '04--no other top-selling team, in any category, was below .500.

Action Figures, Vikings
When Randy Moss was dealt to the Raiders last February, McFarlane Toys repainted his best-selling figurine--in the Raiders' road silver-and-white; Moss is sculpted in turf shoes, which he would never wear at Oakland's outdoor McAfee Coliseum.

Caps, Patriots
According to SportScanINFO, New England was the clear NFL leader, with more than one million retail units sold. The Red Sox, though, outsold Pats hats better than three to one.
