Luke, a freshman wrestler at Michigan, won the 157-pound championship at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, and his six victories there helped the Wolverines win their second consecutive team title. He defeated Illinois's No.1--ranked Alex Tirapelle in the championship match.
Katie Schoepfer
WATERFORD, CONN. > Soccer
Katie, a senior forward at Waterford High, became the first girls' soccer player from the Eastern Connecticut Conference to earn All-America honors. This season she broke her own conference record by scoring 40 goals and led the Lancers to their seventh-straight ECC division title.
Adrian McGowen
GOODRICH, TEXAS > Basketball
Adrian, a senior guard at Goodrich High, scored 41 points in a 55-49 win over Chireno to reach 4,542 points and set a national girls' basketball career scoring record. She holds the national single-season free throw record (409 of 594), averages 37.0 points for the Lady Hornets and at week's end had 5,035 career points. She will attend Texas A&M next fall.
Mitch Tanney
LEXINGTON, ILL. > Football
Tanney, a senior quarterback at Monmouth (Ill.) College, set a NCAA Division III regular-season record with a 73.6 completion percentage. He threw for 2,587 yards with 33 touchdown passes and only three interceptions and was named Midwest Conference offensive player of the year.
Traci Weamer
UPLAND, CALIF. > Volleyball
Weamer, a freshman outside hitter at Cal State--San Bernardino, was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II freshman of the year. She led the 21-8 Coyotes in kills (316), was second in digs (284), and had 22 service aces and a team-high 12 double doubles.
Dave Brandt and Scott Frey
MECHANICSBURG, DILLSBURG, PA. > Soccer
Brandt (far left) and Frey, the men's and women's soccer coaches, respectively, at Messiah College, led their teams to the NCAA Division III national titles on the same day. The former Messiah soccer teammates went a combined 46-0-1 this season.
