Leading Off

Pitt Bulls
To the distress of back judge Tony Steratore, all four Pittsburgh defensive backs--(from left) Tyrone Carter, Ike Taylor, Chris Hope and Troy Polamalu--briefly confronted Cincinnati wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh after an incompletion in the Steelers' 31-17 AFC wild-card victory on Sunday. Bad news came early for the Bengals when quarterback Carson Palmer (inset) was hit by tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen on Cincinnati's second play and tore his left ACL.

Glory Day!
In 1966, Texas Western upset Kentucky 72-65 in the NCAA tournament final (below), becoming the first team with an all-black starting five to win the national title. The story of the Miners' feat has been turned into a movie, Glory Road, starring Josh Lucas (inset, right) as coach Don Haskins.

Box Offices
With members of the media watching from their indoor cubicles, Lars Bystoel of Norway won the FIS ski jumping World Cup on Jan. 4 in Innsbruck, Austria.
