Week Ahead
SATURDAY 1/21
East-West Shrine Game
Oregon State's Mike Hass (above) is the only player in Pac-10 history to have three 1,000-yard receiving seasons, and his 1,532 yards as a senior led the nation. But NFL scouts are skeptical of his speed and quickness, so he's projected as a mid-round pick. He'll look to help his case with a solid performance in San Antonio.

NCAA hockey, No. 5 Colorado College at No. 2 Minnesota
The Golden Gophers' offense is clicking thanks to flashy freshman phenom Phil Kessel (page 74), but Minnesota is going to need a strong defensive performance to hold off the Tigers. Colorado boasts the reigning Hobey Baker award winner, senior center Marty Sertich, and the NCAA's leading goal scorer, senior winger Brett Sterling (below). The Tigers come into the game after dropping two straight last weekend against top-ranked Wisconsin.

SI PICK OF THE WEEK
Seeing Red
After their first fight both Erik Morales (above, left) and Manny Pacquiao (right) looked as if they needed transfusions. Last March, Morales (48-3, 34 KOs) won the super featherweight title from Pacquiao (40-3-2, 32 KOs)--thanks largely to a devastating left hand that opened a gruesome cut above Pacquiao's right eye. Morales then won five of the last eight rounds to take the decision. The champ will fight the rematch without his longtime trainer, his father, Jose, whom he fired in September.

SUNDAY 1/22
Raptors at Lakers
Kobe runs the risk of incurring repetitive-stress syndrome. The Lakers star is hoisting a career-high 27 shots per game--and he'll be looking to gun even more against Toronto, which is playing the second-worst defense in the NBA this year, allowing its opponents to shoot 48.8% from the floor.

MONDAY 1/23
No. 20 Syracuse at No. 9 Pittsburgh
Last spring Panthers guard Carl Krauser (right) declared for the NBA draft only to withdraw his name two months later--much to the relief of Pitt coach Jamie Dixon. Behind the senior's 17.7 points and 4.5 assists per game, the Panthers are one of three remaining undefeated teams.

THURSDAY 1/26
Buick Invitational
Tiger Woods (right) returns from the second-longest layoff of his pro career--a six-week vacation during which he turned 30 and bought a $40 million estate on Jupiter Island, Fla.--to defend his title at Torrey Pines. Last year Woods became the second player to win the Buick three times, joining Phil Mickelson.
