Delmon Young
Is young, theDevil Rays' 20-year-old outfield sensation ready for the Show? "I thought Iwas ready when I was 18," says Delmon, the game's best five-toolprospect.
The No. 1 pick inthe 2003 draft, Young is a 6'3", 205-pound righty who hit .315 with 26homers at Double A and Triple A combined last season. He has speed (32 steals)and a strong arm (scouts rate it a 70 on a scale of 20 to 80).
Young, theyounger brother of the Tigers' All-Star first baseman Dmitri Young, will beginthe season at Triple A Durham, but if he picks up where he left off in 2005,the Devil Rays have indicated he could be their starting rightfielder by theAll-Star break. "Teams shouldn't treat players by their age," he says."Feed them to the dogs, and then if they're not ready, send them down. AllI'm asking for is a shot."
