Big Play with Steve Bosdosh

WHO: TimHerron

WHAT: 10-footbirdie putt

WHERE: 382-yardpar-4 17th hole at Colonial Country Club

WHEN: Secondplayoff hole at the Bank of America Colonial

WHY
Amateurs experiment only when they're desperate. Tour players like Herrontinker every day, and the pros aren't afraid to use unorthodox techniques. Fouryears ago Herron wanted a smoother roll, so after testing several grips andstances he tried the claw grip and felt more balanced and square to the target. He has used the claw ever since, draining putts as he did at 17 and 18 inregulation and to clinch the win in OT.

STEVE'S TIP

Don't Be AfraidTo Experiment

Creativity breedssuccess, so don't be afraid to try out new grips, putters and stances. Here aretwo unique grips that I've learned from my students.

CLAW HAND LOW:Like the left hand low, except that the left hand holds the clubclaw-style.

CARL'S CLAW: Takea standard grip and flip the left hand over. The left thumb rests on the buttend, and there's a gap between the hands.

"Missing acut and blowing leads will be a blessing for Annika Sorenstam. Everybody needsmotivation to excel, and she was running low."

Amy's T-Time

Amy Sabbatini, the boisterous wife of PGA Tour player Rory, first caused a stir in the fall of2004 by wearing a T-shirt that said STOOPID AMERIKAN after European RyderCupper Paul Casey ripped U.S. citizens. She followed up at this year's PlayersChampionship with a T-shirt reading KEEP UP! aimed at Nick Faldo, whosedithering had resulted in a slow-play warning for her husband's group. At theColonial, Amy and about a dozen friends and family wore shirts that read FIREN' NICE on the front and RORY'S ROAD ROWDIES on the back. Here are some otherT-shirts rumored to be in Amy's closet.
