Big Play with Derek Hardy
WHO: JeffMaggert
WHAT: 260-yardtwo-iron to 36 feet to set up an eagle
WHERE: 530-yardpar-5 16th hole at the TPC at Southwind
WHEN: Final roundof the FedEx St. Jude Classic
WHY
Maggert isconsidered a short-knocker, so most assumed he would lay up at 16. But hedisplayed plenty of power by hitting a two-iron that far. Maggert's lengthcomes from two sources: the lag (90-degree angle between the arms and shaft ofthe club) he creates going back and sustains until impact; and the ability tokeep his mind on the target, not the ball, which allows him to make a full turnthrough impact. He also remains stable, as if he's standing between twowalls.
DEREK'S TIP
Toss at theTarget
To Swing Through
This exercise, which will help you make a full turn on the downswing, promotes solid contact.Get into address position while holding a golf ball in your right hand. Thenrotate back and through, as if swinging, and toss the ball to a target 20 yardsaway. Your torso should end up facing the target (yes), not the target line(no).

... AND ANOTHERTHING
"Coursemanagement companies are bad for golf. They tend to jack up prices and cutcorners while focusing only on the bottom line."
SUPER LOOPERS
It doesn't appearon the schedule, but the PGA Tour's annual caddie tournament is one of the mosthighly anticipated and hotly contested events of the season. This year'sedition, held recently at Squaw Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas, was wonby James Edmondson, Ryan Palmer's bagman, who defeated Matt Hauser, J.J.Henry's man, in a playoff. The victory gives Edmondson a big boost in SI'sunofficial ranking of the best players among Tour caddies.
