In his quest for his first U.S. Open trophy (inset) on Sunday, Phil Mickelsonovercame an errant tee shot on the 17th hole at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck,N.Y., with a brilliant six-iron that helped him save par. On 18, however,Mickelson couldn't pull off the same trick, making double bogey to finish onestroke behind Geoff Ogilvy of Australia (page 48).

Dwyane Wade rammed home two of his 42 points in Game 3 of the NBA Finals,propelling Miami to a 98--96 win over Dallas (page 66). The white shirts atAmerican Airlines Arena--encouraged by the Heat as part of a marketingcampaign--gave the team a boost: It won all three games there to take a 3--2edge in pursuit of the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy (inset).
