Krystina Orwat
WHEATON, ILL. > Volleyball
Orwat, a sophomore outside hitter at Kishwaukee College, led the Kougars to the
National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship in
Scottsdale, Ariz. She was first in the nation in aces per game (199 in 130
games), and she was named the national tournament, Region IV and Arrowhead
Conference MVP.
Josh
Rohatinsky
PROVO, UTAH > Cross-country
Rohatinsky, a senior at Brigham Young, won the men's 10K race at the NCAA
Division I national championships in Terre Haute, Ind. He finished first in all
five races that he entered this season, and he was named National Athlete of
the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Russell Wilson
RICHMOND > Football
Russell, a senior quarterback--defensive back at Collegiate School, led the
Cougars to a 38--16 win over Fork Union and their fourth straight Virginia
Independent Schools Football Association Division I title. He completed 21 of
37 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 30 times for 223 yards
and three touchdowns.
Melissa
Gonzalez
SHRUB OAK, N.Y. > Field Hockey
Melissa, a senior forward at Lakeland High, scored 44 goals and had 29 assists
this season as she lead the 24--0 Hornets to the New York State Class A
championship. Her 124 career goals put her ninth on the state's alltime list,
and she has tied or broken seven Hornets records.
Jachelle
Bigornia
BENICIA, CALIF. > Golf
Jachelle, a senior at Benicia High, helped the Panthers to a 12--0 season and
an eighth straight title at the Solano County Athletic Conference girls' golf
tournament at Diablo Creek in Concord. The three-time league MVP shot an 82 to
win her third consecutive individual title.
Kerri Hanks and
Joseph Lapira
ALLEN, TEXAS, AND LAKE CHARLES, LA. > Soccer
Hanks and Lapira, sophomore and junior forwards at Notre Dame, became the first
players from the same school in the same season to win the M.A.C. Hermann
Trophy, given to the NCAA Division I's top women's and top men's soccer
player.
