THE LIST
HOLD THE MAYO
O.J. Mayo was suspended two games after committing two technical fouls and being ejected during his team's 77--64 win last Friday against Charleston Capital. Mayo, a guard for Huntington (W.Va.), drew his first technical for taunting after a dunk; his second came while arguing the call, when he confronted the referee and the opposing players. Mayo then lightly bumped the referee. Mayo (above), who is averaging 31 points, is considered the top player of the class of 2007, and Huntington is No. 1 in several rankings.
RICH GET RICHER
Charlotte (N.C.) Independence has won seven straight large school state football championships, and its prospects for an eighth brightened last week when junior running back Rod Chisholm announced he was transferring from West Charlotte. Chisholm ran for 2,237 yards on 257 carries last year, scoring 24 touchdowns.
PASSING LEBRON
Here's a name that it feels good to pass in the record books: LeBron James. Upper Sandusky senior guard Jon Diebler (left) overtook James to become the No. 3 scorer in Ohio history Friday, with 47 points in a 97--91 win over Willard (Ohio). Diebler, who is averaging 40.3 points this season, will play next year at Ohio State.
BACK TO THE WELL
Southlake Carroll football coach Todd Dodge, who took his team to four Texas state titles in the last five years while winning two mythical national championships, is leaving to coach college ball at North Texas. To replace him Carroll has gone to Dodge's roots, hiring Hal Wasson of Fossil Ridge (Keller, Texas), Dodge's former school. Wasson had a 28--15 record in four seasons at Fossil Ridge and won a district title in 2006.
