Week Ahead

What to watch and watch for

FRIDAY 2/2
Millrose Games
A pair of Olympic gold medalists are on the bill at the 100th edition of the nation's oldest indoor invitational track meet: Gail Devers in the 60-meter hurdles, and Maurice Greene in the 60-meter dash. But the most intriguing event should be the Wanamaker Mile, featuring Alan Webb (above), who in 2001 broke Jim Ryun's 36-year-old high school mile record. Now 24, Webb—who ran an indoor best 3:55.18 last Saturday—will face Bernard Lagat, who won a silver in the 1,500 for Kenya in Athens and is now a U.S. citizen. ESPN2 7 p.m.

SATURDAY 2/3
Lakers at Wizards
Pot, meet kettle. After Gilbert Arenas scored 60 in Washington's 147--141 win over L.A. on Dec. 17, Kobe Bryant criticized Arenas for being too trigger-happy. Expect another shootout: Arenas leads the NBA in shots and Bryant is fifth. Check listings 7 p.m.

Ducks at Predators
In its first season since dumping the Mighty from its nickname and the cartoonish duckbill mask from its logo, Anaheim has gotten tough. The rough-and-tumble Ducks are second in the league in penalty minutes—and fifth in goals against, which is why they've improved and now have the second-best record in the Western Conference. The only team better? Nashville, which is led in scoring by former Anaheim star Paul Kariya. Check listings 8 p.m.

SUNDAY 2/4
Super Bowl XLI
The Colts and the Bears (page 42) should put on a good show, but even if they don't, there will be the usual sort of nonpigskin entertainment options. The pregame festivities at Dolphin Stadium will include a performance by Cirque du Soleil, Billy Joel will sing the national anthem, and the halftime show will be headlined by Prince (left). CBS 6:25 p.m.

TUESDAY 2/6
On Shelves: MVP 07 NCAA Baseball
EA's latest has a new Rock and Fire pitching feature, which makes it easier than ever to bring the heat. That should come in pretty handy when playing with Vanderbilt, one of 152 real teams included in MVP. Though NCAA rules forbid the use of actual players, the Commodores' virtual ace bears a striking resemblance to lefty David Price (left), who had 155 K's in 110 innings last year as a sophomore.

SI PICK OF THE WEEK

MONDAY 2/5
Bean Ball
The Beanpot—which determines the Hub's top hockey club—is a 55-year-old four-way competition between Boston College, Northeastern, Harvard and Boston University. But recently it's been a two-team show. BC or BU has won the trophy every year since 1994, and they're the front-runners in 2007. The Eagles, led by goalie Cory Schneider (51 career wins), are ranked No. 13, while the No. 7 Terriers have the stingiest defense in the country thanks to John Curry (above) and his 1.95 goals-against average. BU plays Northeastern and BC takes on Harvard in tonight's semis. The winners meet on Feb. 12. Check listings 5 p.m.
