Earnest, a freshman at Vanderbilt, rolled two strikes in the final frame to lift the Commodores past Maryland--Eastern Shore for the first NCAA team championship in school history. A member of Junior Team USA, she had a 197 season average and was named the NCAA championship's Most Outstanding Performer.

Travis Jones
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. > Baseball
Jones, a junior second baseman for fourth-ranked South Carolina, went 9 for 12 with five home runs and 11 RBIs in a three-game series against Florida. Through Sunday, Jones had belted 11 home runs, had driven in 38 runs and was batting .298 in the Gamecocks' 41 games this season.

Trish Melvin
WEXFORD, PA. > Softball
Trish, 16, tossed two no-hitters in three starts to help the U.S. finish fifth in the indoor softball World Cup at Rotterdam, the Netherlands. A junior at Vincentian Academy, she has an 11--1 record, including two other no-hitters, and has struck out 168 in 73 innings.

Brad Huff
FAIR GROVE, MO. > Cycling
Huff, 28, won the bronze medal in the five-event omnium at the 2007 track-cycling world championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, becoming the first American male to reach the podium at the event in nine years. Also a competitor in road races, he has won national titles in the criterium and pursuit disciplines.

Denny Fryman
ST. CLOUD, FLA. > Marathon
Fryman, 59, a retired bank manager and adjunct college instructor, completed his 750th marathon in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., becoming the second runner in North America to reach that milestone. He finished his first 26.2-mile race on Oct. 29, 1978, and has run as many as 62 marathons within a 12-month span.

BOZEMAN, MONT. > Basketball, Soccer, Track
Kirsten, a junior at Bozeman High, made the state championships in her first eight high school seasons, winning three team titles (two basketball, one soccer) and three track titles. With a personal-best triple jump of 37 feet, she hopes to make it nine in a row.
