THE QUESTIONS WITH Carlos Delgado
What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment?
I came up in '93 [with Toronto]. We were in the middle of a pennant race, but we were on the road. When we got back to Toronto, we were playing Boston and the Yankees. There were 50,000 people in the stadium. I was scared s---less.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
You drop a ball, lose a ball in the sun, the ball kicks funny and hits you, you trip over your shoes and fall on your [butt]. It's all happened to me.
One thing about being in the major leagues that people don't think about?
The perks. You go to a restaurant and they don't have a table—usually they can accommodate you. If people recognize you at an airport, you might get upgraded or jump in front of the line.
If I weren't playing baseball, I'd be ...
Super Dad. And doing some sort of real estate or computer stuff—anything to do with numbers and technology.
