Golden Gait
While the fleet feet of swingmen Jason Richardson (foreground) and Stephen Jackson (with ball) didn't run the Mavericks off the court in Game 2 on April 25—a 112--99 Dallas victory at home—the Warriors did race to a 3--1 playoff-series lead through Sunday. Behind the fearless play of point guard Baron Davis (inset), Golden State was poised to become just the third eight seed to advance to the second round (page 72).
Icky Wicket
Kumar Sangakkara (left) and Sanath Jayasuriya talked on the pitch during a shower in the ICC Cricket World Cup final last Saturday in Bridgetown, Barbados. Their Sri Lanka team lost to two-time defending champion Australia (inset) by 53 runs, that night, when Sri Lanka's last overs were played in near darkness.
Rubber Bandy-legged
USA Blue Team sprinter Monica Hargrove passed the baton to anchorwoman Julie Stevenson during the 4 √ó 400 relay in the Olympic Development division of the Penn Relays last Saturday in Philadelphia. The distortion—seen also in a shot of the Olympic Development 100-meter hurdles (inset)—is caused by a scan camera most often used for photo-finish shots at horse races. The camera scans one-pixel vertical lines at 4,000 times a second.
