THE LIST

ROCK'S CLUBS
His signature album may be Devil Without a Cause, but Kid Rock (right) felt motivated to play the role of angel after he heard that six sets of golf clubs had been stolen from the girls' golf team at Milan High, near Detroit. Rock, who is from the area, called his friend John Daly, who contacted his sponsor TaylorMade. The company is donating replacement clubs.

CAPTURING THE FLAG
Chelsea Parmer and Susanna Zorn, flag football teammates at Leon (Tallahassee, Fla.), were a dynamic duo in the state title game last Saturday in Boca Raton. Parmer threw two touchdown passes to Zorn, and on defense each returned an interception for a score as Leon defeated Dillard (Fort Lauderdale) 34--0. Leon's defense, which intercepted seven passes in the game, had shut out Palm Beach Gardens 12--0 in the semifinal.

THE BEST OF TIMES
Jahvid Best (left), a Rivals top 100 football recruit who will play running back for Cal next year, showed his speed on the track last week at the Meet of Champions in Sacramento. The senior from Salesian (Richmond, Calif.) ran the 100 meters in 10.36 seconds and the 200 in 21.16; both times were California bests for the year, and his 100 time, a meet record, was the third best nationally this season.

TEN-YEAR RUN
It has been 10 years since Jackson Academy lost a boys' track meet, a streak the Raiders continued by taking their 10th straight Mississippi private school AAA state title on Saturday. The team has now won 79 consecutive meets. Jackson's girls also won the state championship, their first since 1989.
