THE QUESTIONS WITH Matt Cain

GIANTS PITCHER

What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment?
Walking into the clubhouse and seeing everybody congratulate me. It was in August. That whole thing was like, You're here.

Your most embarrassing moment?
I have a tendency to fall down on the mound. Last year it happened three or four times. I try to do too much, throw too hard. My teammates are like, What's going on Matt? Who knows? My forehead almost hit my knee once.

Your favorite off-day activity?
Chick flicks are good. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorites. They're funny, and maybe I learn something from them.

If I were commissioner for a day I'd ...
make the parks a lot bigger and add an outfielder.

If I weren't a ballplayer, I'd ...
I'm into construction—I like to know how things are built. I'd probably be some sort of architect.

LAST WEEK
The 22-year-old Cain, in his second season, allowed three hits in seven innings but lost to the Red Sox 1--0.

NEXT WEEK
Cain (3.15 ERA) is expected to face the Yankees for the first time on Friday night.
