Garrahan, a recent graduate of Amherst College, was named most outstandingathlete at the NCAA Division III meet after winning the 5,000- and 10,000-meterruns and the 3,000 steeplechase. She set a championship record in thesteeplechase (10:13.33) and qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials.

Jose won the USA Junior Olympic Championship in the under-16 and under-18singles divisions, defeating Taylor Knoth 15--5, 15--4 for the U16 title andhis doubles partner, Ismael Aldana Jr., 15--8, 15--6 in the U18 final. Thesenior at Franklin High will compete at the world juniors in December.

Sarah, a senior midfielder at Noble and Greenough School, scored 38 goals andhad 22 assists as she led the Bulldogs to a 15--0 record and the IndependentSchool League title. She is a first-team All-America in lacrosse and an ISLall-star in field hockey and basketball.

Alexander, a fifth-grader at Forest Lake Elementary, earned the silver medal inthe under-10 division of the épée at the U.S. Fencing Association nationalchampionships despite entering as an unranked competitor. After pool play, hewon five straight bouts before falling to Justin Yoo in the final.

Shakeia, a junior at Waubonsie Valley High, won the heptathlon at the USATFYouth Championships and placed in the top six in four other events (400 and 800meters, and 100- and 400-meter hurdles). At the AAU Junior Olympics she againwon the heptathlon and set the AAU record in the 400 hurdles (59.48).

FREEHOLD, N.J. > Powerlifting
Nathan, a seventh-grader at Barkalow Middle School, won a gold medal in theyouth 114-pound class of the AAU Junior Olympics with a squat of 231.48 pounds,a bench press of 137.79 and a deadlift of 253.53. It was his third straightnational title; he is the reigning AAU world champ in the same division.
