THE QUESTIONS WITH José Vidro

MARINERS DH

What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment?
I was with the Expos in 1999 in Pittsburgh. I'd been in a platoon at second base. That night I went 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two home runs. After the game manager Felipe Alou said to me, "You're the starting second baseman."

Your most embarrassing moment?
In '98 I was called up from the minors for a game in Florida. A bunch of buddies came from Puerto Rico to see me play. But before the game I got sent back down. I had to go down without ever seeing them.

Your favorite off-day activity?
Washing my cars.

If I were commissioner for a day, I'd ...
shorten the season to 150 games.

If I weren't playing baseball, I'd....
I never thought about doing anything but baseball.

Last Week
Vidro, who turned 33 on Monday, had four RBIs in four games against Texas.

This Week
Starting on Monday, Seattle takes on wild-card rival Yankees, against whom Vidro has hit .321 this year.
