Looking Good
AFTER WINNING a three-way battle for Oklahoma's quarterback position, Sam Bradford has been on fire. With Miami defenders in man coverage most of the afternoon, the redshirt freshman completed 19 of 25 passes for 205 yards and five TDs in a 51--13 rout. He completed 40 of his 48 passes in the Sooners' two wins.
•No. 9 Virginia Tech boasted the nation's No. 1 defense for the past two seasons, but No. 2 LSU rolled up 598 yards of total offense in a 48--7 win. No wonder the Tigers peeled off 20 first-place votes from No. 1 USC in this week's AP poll.
•Operating out of a spread offense, Oregon amassed a jaw-dropping 624 yards of total offense in a 39--7 victory over Michigan, handing the Wolverines their worst loss since 1968. Senior quarterback Dennis Dixon threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 76 yards and a score.
