THE QUESTIONS WITH Phil Hughes

YANKEES PITCHER

What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment?
First game, first inning, I threw a fastball to Frank Thomas, down and six inches off the plate. He lined it to right for an RBI. I knew right then.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Pitching for (Triple A) Scranton, there was a push bunt. I tried to barehand it, but I tripped on my shoelace and stumbled when I threw it. You have to see the video.

One thing about the majors people don't know?
It's not as glamorous as you think. Once you're here, you see that it's just a job. It's just that more people admire you.

If I were commissioner for a day, I'd ...
take QuesTec out of every park.

If I weren't playing baseball, I'd. ...
If I'd gone to college, I would have majored in economics. I'd want to be working on Wall Street.

Last Week
Hughes, 21, held the Mariners to two runs in six innings.

This Week
The rookie is set to make his first start against the Red Sox, at Fenway Park on Sunday.
