Leading Off

A Manny Splendored Thing
After belting a three-run walk-off homer last Friday to beat the Angles 6--3 in Game 2 of their AL Division Series, Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez admired his handiwork with the rest of the Fenway Park crowd. Ramirez went deep again on Sunday in Game 3, a 9--1 victory that gave Boston a series sweep (page 42).

Eyes of the Tiger
Grounded in the second quarter last Saturday with his team trailing Florida 10--0, LSU running back Jacob Hester might not have had victory in sight. But with 1:09 to play in the fourth quarter Hester, who gained 106 yards on 23 carries, plowed in for a two-yard touchdown that propelled LSU to a 28--24 victory in Baton Rouge and firmed up its No. 1 ranking (page 44).

Stickin' Around
Kings center Michael Cammalleri tried a diving wraparound shot last Saturday in Staples Center but was thwarted by the right skate of Blues goaltender Manny Legace. St. Louis won 5--3.
