Leading Off

Dancing with the Star

Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk (13) went cheek-to-arm with Dallas defenseman Sergei Zubov in battling for the puck during Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference finals last Saturday in Detroit. The Stars won 2--1—after taking Game 4, in which Tomas Holmstrom (inset, far left) and Steve Ott squared off—but still trailed in the series, three games to two.

Feeling Blue

Blue-clad Glasgow Rangers fans swarmed Albert Square in Manchester, England, an hour before their side faced Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Cup final on May 14. Later, Zenit captain Anatoliy Tymoschuk (inset, left) celebrated a 2--0 victory that clinched Europe's second-most-prestigious club title, while a Rangers fan (inset, right) at City of Manchester Stadium despaired. The influx of fans led to riots on the day of the match; police arrested 42 Rangers supporters, and a Russian fan was stabbed.

Reign of Lorena

After hitting her second shot at the 18th hole on Sunday, Lorena Ochoa made a par 5 to clinch a one-stroke victory—her third straight in the Sybase Classic—at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J. Earlier in the week Ochoa's predecessor as the world's No. 1 player, Annika Sorenstam (inset, with Ochoa in March), announced her plan to retire at the end of this season (page 18). Ochoa (six) and Sorenstam (three) have won nine of the 12 LPGA events played this year.
