Riza Zalameda
LOS ANGELES > Tennis
Zalameda, a senior at UCLA, rallied to beat Susie Babos of Cal 3--6, 6--3, 6--2, helping the Bruins win their first NCAA women's tennis championship; she was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and the ITA's national senior player of the year. She is 33--11 this year and won the Pac-10 singles title.

RICHMOND, TEXAS > Baseball
David, a senior third baseman at McMurry, set a Division III record by homering in seven consecutive games. He was named West region player of the year after batting .432 and setting six American Southwest Conference single-season records, including home runs (26, second alltime in D-III).

Anna Shields
HARWINTON, CONN. > Track and Field
Anna, a junior at Lewis Mills High, won the 5,000 meters at the Nike Indoor Nationals by more than 10 seconds (17:38.57). She is the state record holder in the mile (4:48.2) and was fourth in the event at the Penn Relays. She is the New England champ in the 1,000.

HIXSON, TENN. > Swimming
Sean, a sophomore at the McCallie School, is the top-ranked 15-year-old in the nation, in three freestyle events: the 400-meters (4:02.80), the 800 (8:20.03) and the 1,500 (15:52.35). He swam his 1,500 time at the Speedo Southeastern Sectional Championships and qualified for the Olympic trials.

Jeff Spear
WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. > Fencing
Spear, a sophomore at Columbia, defeated top-ranked Mike Momtselidze of Ohio State 15--10 to win the NCAA championship in the sabre and help the Lions finish third in the team competition. He had the best sabre record (14--1) at the Ivy League championships and was named first-team all-league.

Patience Knight
SAN ANTONIO > Track and Field
Knight, a junior at Texas Tech, won the Big 12 shot put title in indoor and outdoor track two years after learning she had Hodgkin's lymphoma. She competed last year while undergoing chemotherapy. This year she finished third at the NCAA indoor meet and has the nation's best outdoor put (57'11").
