The Beat

THE STAR-CROSSED love story of Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and former cheerleader Christy Oglevee (below) had a happy ending: The couple wed in Lansdowne, Va., last Friday, three years after Oglevee was fired by Washington for violating a team ban on player-cheerleader romances. Three days before the wedding, Cooley, 26, blogged about it at Yahoo.com. "I'm excited for the big day, so please don't feel sorry for me because marriage sucks for you," he wrote. "No, I'm not nervous, I don't want any marriage advice, and yes Christy's mom is still hot." ... This week's athlete-as-intern update: Panthers receiver Steve Smith is working as a financial-planning understudy at Morgan Stanley in New York City. Smith joins New York Rangers winger Sean Avery (Vogue) and Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce (The Howard Stern Show) as interns this summer.... After helping eliminate the Jazz in the Western Conference semis, Lakers center Pau Gasol attended Los Angeles Opera's opening night performance of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca. Gasol visited the cast backstage and greeted Plàcido Domingo, a fellow Spaniard and the LAO general director.
