Rono, a junior at Azusa Pacific, won the 1,500 meters (3:46.35), the 5,000 (14:23.81) and the 10,000 (29:56.17) at the NAIA championships, helping the Cougars win the team title. He is the first athlete in either the NAIA or NCAA to win the triple crown of distance races at the same championship meet.

Austin, a senior at Franklin High, never lost a match in his high school career, going 64--0 as a Lion. He won four Class 2A singles championships and is only the fourth Texan to win that many boys' titles. He is the state's fifth-ranked player.

ROSEVILLE, MINN. > Gymnastics
Anna, a junior at Roseville Area High, won the Class 2A championship in the uneven bars (9.850) for the second straight year and also took the title in the all-around (38.425) and balance beam (9.875). She helped the Raiders win their third consecutive state championship.

SCARBOROUGH, MAINE > Bowling
Anton, 26, a disability analyst, won all six candlepin bowling events of the Maine Open—singles, doubles, mixed doubles, mixed teams, teams and all events—becoming the first to accomplish the feat since 1969. Last year she was rookie of the year in the World Candlepin Bowlers Congress.

Emmarie Truman
JACKSON, MICH. > Softball
Emmarie, a sophomore righthander at Jackson High, pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts to lead the Vikings to an 11--0 win. She made the start three months after surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor and while undergoing chemotherapy. She was 5--5 this season with a 3.19 ERA.

Luke Laird
GARDNER, KANS. > Track and Field
Laird, a freshman at Arkansas, won the Southeastern Conference javelin championship in his first competition as a Razorback. A redshirt until just before the league meet, he threw 228'4", the third-best distance in school history. He placed fifth at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
