Leading Off

Brown Can't Deliver
Around the final turn at the Belmont Stakes last Saturday, Big Brown (far right), with Kent Desormeaux aboard, trailed a field he had been a 1--4 favorite to trounce en route to the Triple Crown. Instead, Alan Garcia rode 38--1 shot Da' Tara (inset) to a wire-to-wire victory, and Big Brown finished last (page 48).

Voilà!
Rafael Nadal of Spain was unwavering in his pursuit of a fourth straight French Open championship on Sunday, routing Roger Federer 6--1, 6--3, 6--0 at Roland Garros, where Rafa is 28--0. Ana Ivanovic of Serbia (inset) won the women's final a day earlier, defeating Dinara Safina 6--4, 6--3 for her first major title (page 56).

Shore Thing
Casey Jennings served to Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers on Sunday in the final of the AVP tour's Hermosa Beach (Calif.) Open. Dalhausser (inset) and Rogers, who are likely to represent the U.S. at this summer's Beijing Olympics, defeated Jennings and Matt Fuerbringer 21--14, 25--23.
