Pierre McGuire's In the Crease

The Kings did a great job stocking their defense at the draft. With the No. 2 pick, L.A. took potential franchise blueliner Drew Doughty (right), who's mobile and physical, and starred for the OHL's Guelph Storm; at No. 13 the Regina Pats' hard-hitting Colten Teubert; and in the second round underrated Russian Vjateslav Voinov, who plays with an edge reminiscent of ex-NHLer Ulf Samuelsson.... At No. 30 Detroit took Doughty's teammate, goalie Thomas McCollum, whom scouts say has the best glove in the draft. McCollum will attend a goalie school in Niagara Falls, Ont.; he'll learn under Wings coach Jim Bedard and benefit from the patience and targeted instruction that makes Detroit so good at grooming talent.
