Leading Off
In Good Hand
Colts receiver Reggie Wayne held on to a five-yard touchdown pass—even after Texans cornerback Jacques Reeves pried his arms apart—with 1:54 to play on Sunday to cap a come-from-behind 31--27 victory in Houston. In a span of 2:10 in the fourth quarter, Indianapolis returned a fumble for one TD and Peyton Manning passed for two more, erasing a 27--10 deficit.
Home Alone
White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski cut a solitary figure as he camped under a foul pop in Game 2 of the AL Division Series last Friday at Tropicana Field. The Rays won 6--2 to take a 2--0 series lead, and on Monday they closed out the series in Chicago with a Game 4 victory.
After Shock
Detroit center Olayinka Sanni leaped into the arms of teammate Kara Braxton after the Shock won its third WNBA title in six years on Sunday, defeating San Antonio 76--60 in Ypsilanti, Mich., to sweep the series in three games. Katie Smith (30) averaged a team-high 21.7 points and was named Finals MVP.
