Leading Off
Conversion Inversion
James Madison quarterback Drew Dudzik leaped near the end zone, was drilled by Montana's Craig Mettler (50) but got the ball across the goal line for two points in a Division I-AA semifinal last Friday in Harrisonburg, Va. Despite Dudzik's fourth-quarter effort, Montana won 35--27 and advanced to the title game against Richmond, which beat Northern Iowa 21--20 the next day in Cedar Falls.
Happy Volley
Nebraska players (from left) Jordan Larson, Rachel Schwartz, Tara Mueller, Amanda Gates, Kayla Banwarth and Sydney Anderson celebrated their five-set NCAA regional finals victory over Washington last Saturday in Seattle. The Cornhuskers (31--2) moved on to the national semifinals in Omaha, where they will face top-seeded Penn State (36--0), which hasn't lost a game all season.
Off His High Horse
It was a long drop for Dusty Hausauer of Dickinson, N.D., after he was thrown by Sock Dancer in the saddle-bronc competition at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last Friday in Las Vegas. Horse and rider landed safely, and Hausauer finished sixth in the event.
