Karina Woehrstein
LOMITA, CALIF. > Volleyball
Woehrstein, a sophomore libero at El Camino Community College, had 498 digs (5.6 per game) this season for the state-champion Warriors. She was an All--South Coast Conference and all-state selection as well as state tournament MVP. El Camino was 74--5 and won two state titles during her two seasons.
Brandon Romain
BROOKLYN > Basketball
Romain, a freshman guard, scored 41 points on 17-for-22 shooting to help Post defeat South Dakota 102--94, at the Pepsi Tip-Off Classic; it was the Division II Eagles' first men's basketball win over a Division I school. He was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's player of the week.

PLANTATION, FLA. > Golf
Lindy, a senior at American Heritage High, shot 135 (67--68) for 36 holes to win the state Class 1A individual championship. The Patriots had a state-record 281 team score (seven under par) in the second round to win their third state tournament in four years.

Dakota Senger
SPRINGFIELD, ORE. > BMX Racing
Dakota, a seventh-grader at Monroe Middle School, won his second ABA national age group championship despite nine screws and a plate in his left ankle, which he broke while training to defend his UCI World BMX title. Dakota rides for Redline Global, which sent four team members to the 2008 Olympics.
Haley Hiatt
WASHINGTON, N.C. > Basketball, Volleyball
Haley, a sophomore center at Washington High, had 10 points in a 59--31 win over Conley—her first basketball game since beating Hodgkin's disease. After undergoing nine weeks of treatment in the fall, she first returned to competition by playing the final six games of the volleyball season.
Kiko Mendoza
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. > Cross-country
Kiko, a senior at Cheyenne Eagle Butte High, became the first male to win four South Dakota state cross-country titles when he finished the Huron 5K course in 16:19; he also led the Braves to the team championship. Kiko was voted 2008 high school boys' athlete of the year by the state's sportswriters.
