Hot Rod

Andy Roddick leaned back before belting a serve at the U.S.--Switzerland Davis Cup matches in Birmingham last Friday. Roddick beat Marco Chiudinelli 6--1, 6--3, 7--6, and the U.S. advanced to the Cup quarterfinals with a 4--1 win.

Sitting at Home

Umpire Dan Iassogna was the only man still on his feet after U.S. outfielder Mark DeRosa slid in ahead of the tag by Ramon Hernandez on Sunday during the first round of the World Baseball Classic (page 16) in Toronto. The U.S. routed Venezuela 15--6.

Ink in the Paint

Denver's Chris Andersen flexed more colorful tattoos than his defender, Utah's Carlos Boozer, as he went up for a basket in Salt Lake City last Friday. Boozer's Jazz won 97--91 to extend its winning streak to 10.
